The "Miss Topsy Skirt"

$110.00

This skirt is named after the  beautiful burlesque dancer Miss Topsy. She rose to fame in the 1960s as a burlesque star and pin-up at a time when Black women were rarely allowed into the spotlight. Though adored by audiences across Europe and Asia, she was often exoticized and exploited by promoters who marketed her body as a spectacle while denying her the same protections and opportunities given to white performers.

Despite this, her bold costuming, glamorous styling, and unapologetic stage presence shaped the visual language of burlesque and pin-up fashion, inspiring trends in feathers, sequins, and dramatic lingerie silhouettes that echoed in both underground and mainstream fashion. Her impact lies not only in her artistry, but in how she forced fashion and performance spaces to reckon with Black glamour, paving the way for future generations of designers and performers to embrace extravagance without apology.

Made from dead-stock velvet and tulle fabric, with a satin zip up waist band.

Extremely mini…conservatism is on the rise.. Lets fight that!

Model is 5’10 wearing a small

This skirt will ship out late October to early November (2025)
